HELLO! We are Home Grown Social Media. Let us tell you a little bit about history and a little bit about ourselves…
Home Grown Social Media was started in January of 2017 by Sara Broers and Patrick Palmer after a Facebook chat regarding Social Media Education. Sara was talking to Patrick and was concerned that North Iowa was being under served in the area of Social Media education and the lack of classes that people could enroll in to become better aware of their client base and to capture sales. Names were bantered about and then we agreed that WE were the ones who should take this process forward. From that simple Facebook chat is how Home Grown Social Media was born!
Now, it’s our honor to introduce ourselves…
I’m Sara Broers, owner of Social Connections LLC and I have partnered with Patrick Palmer to form Home Grown Social Media. I also have a passion for travel, as you can follow me online at TravelWithSara. I started blogging towards the end of 2008, and quickly learned that social media was where I needed to be to help tell my story.
I struggled for several years to find folks in my home area, North Iowa, that understood the power of social media. I found myself working with out of state clients and realized a lot of these dollars should be exchanging hands on a local level. It was at that point, in June of 2013, I formed the North Iowa Social Media Breakfast Club. The club meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 8:30-10:00 a.m. in the Heritage Room of First Citizens Bank in Mason City. Our local economy has been positively impacted from this group, as people are partnering up on projects to help grow their businesses.
Through my love of travel and social media, MidwestTravelBloggers also came to fruition. My business partner, Lisa of The Walking Tourists, and myself help destinations across the midwest get their names on the map through the use of social media. The midwest is my home and I’m proud of the fact that I am a farmer’s daughter and married the neighbor boy. My husband and I have two grown adult sons and enjoy traveling anywhere the car, plane or ship will sail.
I hope to see you at some of our Home Grown Social Media’s events. We would love to show the people in your community how social media can help grow your local economy. Social media is all about connecting and meeting new people, and I love the fact that we are offering this opportunity through Home Grown Social Media.
And, I’m Patrick Palmer, better known to many folks in North Iowa as “The Computer Guy.” I’ve been in the computer repair business for over 20 years and in the Social Media realm since the days of MySpace in 2004. I bring a technical understanding to the table as far as Social Media goes and a “How’s That Work?” attitude of learning. I enjoy teaching people about Social Media and also many computer tips as well in my “The Monday Morning Memo.” I look forward to helping many people as a partner with Sara Broers in our new venture — Home Grown Social Media.
I have been fortunate enough to speak at many regional events, including twice at the 104 Character Conference in Des Moines, Upper Midwest Social Media Summit, Northern Iowa Social Media Summit, Social Media Buzz and many other events. As a former radio broadcaster in North Iowa for 17 years, I’ve also hosted many events and emceed a lot of functions as well.
I’m humorous, but very caring and passionate about getting the right message to the people who need to hear it — not only in regards to their computer problems, but to address their needs in Social Media. There’s a lot of noise in the space right now and the landscape changes on a daily basis. Let’s us help you keep up and follow our Facebook page to get more information.
Our goal is to not only help educate the people of North Iowa, but to take our show on the road to as many communities in the Midwest as possible. Whether you set up a day’s worth of training or just several classes, I’m sure you will find a topic that you will like. If you like, let us build a day long event for your group or organization that your group can sell tickets to and promote your group or organization.
Thank you for putting your trust in Home Grown Social Media and follow us along for the ride on our Facebook page as well at Home Grown Social Media!
